For more than 30 years, szene salzburg has been a major factor in Salzburg's cultural and public life. Its programming brings the finest projects in contemporary performing arts and dance to Salzburg. Today, szene is the most well-attended cultural center outside of Vienna with 290,000 visitors per year and approximately 380 events which include programs from the Salzburger Festspiele as well as school- and youth events. szene, a non profit organization, is best represented by its annual sommerszene festival, a program that presents international dance, theatre, film, visual arts and music projects.
szene salzburg's focus has continually sought links between international artists and the local context of the city. szene co-founded the apap network 10 years ago, and has actively worked in different European networks. collaborating with artists and organizations in Asia, Africa and North America. szene salzburg has installed the apap department to coordinate and manage the network.
